Design Thinking Resources for Your Classroom
What is Design Thinking?
I was asked over the holidays, "How do you define design thinking?" I have to admit that it took me a moment to consider my answer. I said, "Design thinking is thinking like a designer." So what does that look like? First of all thinking like a designer takes training, practice and good mentors. It does not develop overnight and it is not an easy fix for solving problems. But everyone can learn how to think like a designer. Thinking like a designer means that you look at the world you encounter like a puzzle. You begin to see opportunities of how something could work better, be more efficient, be more attractive, be more useful if you add or take away something or even you have to chuck everything and start over. You begin to see how the world is connected through economics, environment, culture, personal expression and technology. You start to see other people's point of view. And you begin to see how you, as an individual, impact where you live on a local and global level. The resources provide are just one way to get you started thinking like a designer.
